One day, I hope, people will dare to share their own little, connecting stories, under this post, or amongst each other. And haha, sorry, I'm new on Substack and it seemed my comment under yours didn't come through, so I ended up posting it 3 times.
Just a little human to human story from today. I do note an improvement option for Substack, as I can't seem to add an image in a comment, but here we go: walking down the street, cut open by workers to place cables, I observed one of them holding a shovel I'd never seen before. So I asked about it. He didn't understand my language, so I switched into another one. The workers, from Serbia, had made that shovel themselves, which would please a manager actually taking a Gemba walk, but that's another story.
I took a picture of the shovel. You'll now have to picture it yourself. The street was made with similar bricks used for the walls of houses. They were placed errr whats the word for that.. pattern like a single brick wall? So the bricks in a next layer start from the middle of the brick in the previous layer. They only had a normal shovel to get rid of the sand under, between and on top of the bricks, to connect the next layer properly. So... these street wise smart people made there own shovel... saving them.. and their bosses... a lot of time.... :-)))). Can you picture it?
I thank them for their time, complimented them; they smiled and I went along to my meeting.
I could have had a different mindset today. I then could have been annoyed the street was open, I could not have noticed the workers, nor the shovel. I could not have asked a genuinely curious question. I could have felt annoyed the workers didn't speak my language, when I did ask. Etc. Etc.
IF so, I would have missed out on this joyous little story.... #connection ... and another improvement option ;-)
